On October 21, 2025, the Henan Provincial Government Information Office held a press conference on High-Quality Energy Development in Henan, outlining the province’s energy achievements during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021–2025).

According to the briefing, Henan currently operates 194 coal mines, with a total approved production capacity of 156 million tonnes per year. The coal sector features a well-structured and stable operational system. Mechanization has reached advanced levels:

• Coal mining mechanization rate: 97%

• Roadheader loading mechanization rate: 95%

Labor productivity has steadily increased, and under the premise of ensuring safety, Henan has fully ramped up production and supply, delivering a cumulative 477 million tonnes of raw coal—successfully fulfilling the national coal supply security mandate.

In addition to domestic operations, Henan-based coal enterprises have actively expanded outward, engaging in cooperative coal development projects in resource-rich regions such as Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and Qinghai, along with constructing supporting infrastructure. This strategic move has significantly broadened their development space and enhanced long-term resource security.

Intelligent Transformation Accelerates

Henan has made notable progress in mine intelligence:

• 3 national-level intelligent demonstration coal mines

• 33 intelligent coal mines

• 161 intelligent longwall mining faces

• 259 intelligent tunneling faces

• 93 other intelligent subsystems (e.g., ventilation, power, monitoring)

As a result, intelligent mines now account for 46.1% of Henan’s total coal production capacity, reflecting the province’s commitment to safe, efficient, and technologically advanced coal development in alignment with national energy transition goals.
